The No. 15 Ohio State women’s basketball team defeated East Carolina 79-55 in the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship. Jacy Sheldon led the Buckeyes with 20 points while Taylor Thierry contributed 14 points and eight rebounds. The team’s next game will be against Oklahoma State.
Ohio State got off to a strong start, scoring the first 10 points of the game and maintaining a 21-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, East Carolina’s Synia Johnson led a comeback in the second quarter, scoring eight of her 14 points to bring ECU within three points of Ohio State at halftime.
In response, Ohio State came out strong in the second half, scoring 11 of the first 13 points to take a double-digit lead once again. Rebeka Mikulasikova contributed 12 points, while Cotie McMahon and Rikki Harris each had 11 for Ohio State. ECU’s Johnson and Amiya Joyner scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The game also saw several technical fouls, including an ejection for ECU’s Jade Tillman after a hard foul in the third quarter. Despite this setback, ECU continued to fight but could not overcome Ohio State’s superior play and ultimately fell by double digits.
Overall, Ohio State’s strong performance secured a convincing victory in the tournament and solidified their place as one of the top teams in their conference.
