Dana Incorporated, a leading supplier to Pierce and Oshkosh Airport Products, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Automotive News PACE Award for their cutting-edge electro-mechanical, infinitely variable transmission (EMIVT) system. Dana is recognized globally for their expertise in propulsion and energy-management solutions and their advanced technology powers the Pierce Volterra Electric Fire Truck and the Oshkosh Airport Products Striker Volterra Electric Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle in the fire apparatus and emergency vehicle sector.

The EMIVT system was showcased at FDIC 2024 and was recognized at the Automotive News awards ceremony in April 2024. This innovation represents a major advancement in driveline technology, combining high-voltage motors, a power-split transmission, and a low-voltage motor and inverter to offer seamless operation in engine-only, hybrid, and battery-only modes. This not only reduces CO2 emissions but also enhances vehicle performance and lowers operational costs.

In a recent press release, Dana’s Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer highlighted the benefits of the EMIVT system, emphasizing its versatility to meet diverse customer needs across different powertrain configurations. The system supports zero-emissions goals, reduces fuel consumption, and lowers production costs for customers.

The award-winning EMIVT system is currently available exclusively to Pierce and Oshkosh Airport Products in commercial vehicles within the fire truck and ARFF vehicle sectors. This demonstrates its effectiveness in critical applications. The Automotive News PACE Awards recognize automotive suppliers for innovation, technological advancement, and business performance. This marks Dana’s ninth PACE Award, solidifying their reputation as leaders in industry innovation.
