A physiotherapist from Walton-on-Thames, in Surrey, is set to embark on a solo mission to set a new world record for kayaking around Britain in the quickest time. Mike Lambert, at 32 years old, is no stranger to extreme conditions and high-pressure situations. He was a former GB under-23 canoe sprinter and is determined to surpass the current world record pace set by Dougal Glaisher last year, completing the journey around Britain in just 40 days.

Lambert’s mission is not only about physical endurance but also raising awareness and funds for organizations like the Aortic Dissection Charitable Trust, Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland, and the RNLI. His mother passed away from a Type-A aortic dissection in 2022, which inspired him to take up this challenge.

Setting off from West Sussex on a Saturday morning, Lambert plans to cover an average of 51 miles each day. Accompanied by a small group of loved ones at the start of his journey, Lambert expressed optimism about his first day at sea, aiming to reach Swanage by early afternoon and possibly continuing on to Portland Bill by evening.

Despite the challenges ahead of him such as finding food, water, and rest along the way while navigating waves up to 30ft in height, Lambert remains focused on his goal and determined to succeed. His dedication to this cause goes beyond just physical strength; it’s also about honoring his mother’s memory while making a difference in people’s lives through charity work.
