Phoenix Suns guard Cameron Payne was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona early Friday morning for allegedly giving police officers false information and refusing to provide his name. TMZ Sports first reported Payne’s arrest, which occurred after officers were called to investigate a disturbance around 2:44 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, police found Payne and another individual, but did not disclose the nature of the disturbance.

Payne, 29, has had a storied nine-year NBA career. He played for the Oklahoma City Thunder from 2015-19 before being traded to the Phoenix Suns in 2019. Throughout his career, he has also played for the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers. In his most recent stint with the Sixers, he averaged 9.3 points and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 38% on 3-pointers in 31 regular season games. During the playoffs, he appeared in five games, averaging 5.3 points and shooting 44% on 3-pointers.

As a free agent, Payne’s future in the NBA is uncertain, but reports suggest that the Sixers are interested in re-signing him to serve as a backup to point guard Tyrese Maxey. Despite his arrest earlier this week, it remains to be seen what impact it will have on his ability to continue playing professional basketball in the future.
