The Chicago Cubs have added depth to their catcher position by acquiring William Simoneit from the Philadelphia Phillies in a recent trade. Simoneit will join the Cubs’ Double-A affiliate in West Tennessee, taking the place of Moises Ballesteros who was promoted to Triple-A.

In exchange for Simoneit, the Cubs will send cash considerations to the Phillies. Simoneit has shown some power at the plate this season, hitting two home runs and driving in eight RBI’s in 77 plate appearances between Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies’ organization. He has also drawn seven walks and is currently slashing .145/.286/.306.

Ballesteros, who is considered the Cubs’ top catching prospect and No. 6 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, has put up impressive numbers this season. With nine home runs and 43 RBI’s in 56 games for West Tennessee, he is hitting .299/.372/.495 in 223 plate appearances. Ballesteros is set to make his Triple-A debut with the Iowa Cubs on Tuesday against the Indianapolis Indians.
