The Phillies have welcomed back Trea Turner to their active roster, ending his six-week absence due to a hamstring injury. Turner will resume his position as the team’s shortstop and No. 2 hitter behind Kyle Schwarber. During his time away, Edmundo Sosa performed well both offensively and defensively, but will now move back to his super-utility role with Turner’s return to the lineup.

With the addition of Turner, the Phillies had to make room on the roster, ultimately optioning Johan Rojas to Triple A. Rojas will now have the opportunity to play every day and work on his offensive skills in hopes of finding more consistency at the plate. In 58 games this season, Rojas has struggled at the plate, hitting .235/.271/.295.

Without Rojas on the roster, the Phillies seem to be leaning towards a platoon in center field with Brandon Marsh and Cristian Pache, while Whit Merrifield and David Dahl will likely share duties in left field. This move gives the Phillies some flexibility and options in their outfield lineup moving forward.
