In Philadelphia’s Queen Village section, the Famous 4th Street Deli has been temporarily shut down by food inspectors following a discovery of numerous violations that need to be rectified. The inspection uncovered at least seven violations, some of which were repeated issues. Among the issues found were mouse droppings on food contact surfaces, evidence of rodent activity on prep tables and in corners, improperly stored food, and a lack of protection on a window to keep out insects and rodents.

As a result of these violations, the deli has been issued a cease operation order and must address the concerns before being allowed to reopen. Famous 4th Street Deli, founded in 1923, is well-known for its oversized corned beef and pastrami sandwiches and is a popular spot for Philadelphia politicians on Election Day. The Jewish deli has also been featured in movies such as “Philadelphia” and “In Her Shoes,” as well as on Food Network’s “The Rachel Ray Show.”
