In recent years, Technical.ly has been redefining its approach to annual reports with the release of its inaugural State of the Philadelphia Tech Economy Report. This report is a result of support from various organizations, including the City of Philadelphia Department of Commerce, Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Morgan Lewis, the Penn Center for Innovation, and Silicon Valley Bank.
The report can be downloaded for free by sharing your name, email address and job title. Inside the report you will find data and analysis on Philadelphia’s tech economy at a national level as well as examples of Technical.ly’s journalism such as their Thriving series and profiles of individuals who embody the region through their RealLISTs. This report is expected to become an annual capstone to Technical.ly’s work in each market they serve.
It’s worth noting that the terminology used in the report, such as technology, startups, and innovation are used interchangeably with phrases like community, ecosystem and economy. However, each phrase has a subtly different meaning. The report aims to focus on the economic impact of research, businesses and workforce in emerging inventions like software within the region’s tech industry.
