Penn State has been ranked No. 89 in the 2025 QS World University Rankings, an annual report that ranks over 1,500 global universities each year. Despite dropping slightly from its No. 83 ranking last year, Penn State remains in the top 8% of all universities worldwide.

In the United States, Penn State was ranked No. 24 out of 197 institutions. It was recognized as the No. 8 public university and No. 6 in the Big Ten, following UCLA, Michigan, Northwestern, Washington, and Illinois.

Penn State performed well in sustainability (96.5) and international research network (97.9), but struggled with faculty-student ratio (25), international faculty ratio (25.1), and international student ratio (28).
