Rodney Harrison, a New England Patriots legend, has offered some advice for the team as they prepare for a new era with quarterback Drake Maye at the helm. Maye will be replacing Mac Jones, who was named the starter in 2021 after winning the training camp quarterback battle over Cam Newton.

Harrison believes that the Patriots should take a different approach with Maye than they did with Jones. He suggested that they should not rush Maye into the starting role right away, especially given the tough defenses he will face in the first six weeks of the season. Instead, Harrison recommended giving Jacoby Brissett the starting role initially.

Maye has shown promise during spring practices, and even Brissett has noted his development. However, it would be wise for the Patriots to let Maye continue to learn the playbook and get comfortable in the NFL before thrusting him into a starting role. Taking their time with Maye’s development could benefit the Patriots in the long run, ensuring that he is fully prepared when he eventually takes over as the starting quarterback.
