Daniels Health, a company that offers disposal services for sharps, biohazardous, medical and pharmaceutical waste, is currently facing patent infringement claims from Verde Environmental Technologies Inc. The claims are related to products that utilize activated carbon and warm water to deactivate and dispose of pharmaceuticals.

Verde has accused Daniels of infringing on US Patent No. 8,535,711 titled “Medication Disposal System,” which was issued on September 17, 2013. The technology outlined in the patent is said to be integrated into Verde’s Deterra Drug Deactivation Disposal System.

The legal action against Daniels Health was initiated in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota. The case will determine whether Daniels is indeed infringing on Verde’s intellectual property rights or if the claims lack merit.
