Air traffic control strikes planned for this weekend are causing disruptions at Paris-Orly airport, with companies having to cancel 70% of flights on Saturday. This was revealed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) in a notice issued on May 25, 2024.

One of the main air traffic controllers’ unions has called for a strike at Paris-Orly airport to demand adequate staffing. The union expressed concerns about understaffing issues and their impact on safety missions. Despite a previous agreement between the DGAC and the main controllers’ union, unresolved staffing issues at Orly are expected to continue until 2027.

Another union has also filed a strike notice to protest against the weakening of the “territorial network” due to air traffic control reforms. The ongoing strikes and protests have led to the cancellation of several thousand flights in France and Europe.

Several other unions have expressed their discontent with the current agreements and reforms within the air traffic control system. The ongoing strikes and protests are causing significant disruptions and challenges for airlines, passengers, and aviation authorities.
