The Tokyo Olympics may have come to a close, but the excitement is already building for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Kellie Harrington and Aidan Walsh, both of whom won gold and bronze medals in Tokyo respectively, have been named among the 10 fighters representing Team Ireland at the upcoming competition.

This will mark the 100th year that Team Ireland has competed in the Olympic Games. The preliminary rounds of the competition will be held at the Arena Paris Nord, while the semi-finals and finals will take place at the Rolland Garros Stadium.

Belfast light-middleweight Aidan Walsh, who won gold three years ago in Tokyo, expressed his excitement about heading to his second Olympic Games. He noted that one of the biggest differences from Tokyo will be the presence of crowds, adding that it will be important for the team to control their emotions amidst the noise. Joining him in Paris are his sister Michaela and Jude Gallagher from Newtownstewart.

The full Team Ireland boxing team includes Kellie Harrington for Women’s 60kg, Aidan Walsh for Men’s 71kg, Aoife O’Rourke for Women’s 75kg, Daina Moorehouse for Women’s 50kg, Dean Clancy for Men’s 63.5kg, Grainne Walsh for Women’s 66kg, Jude Gallagher for Men’s 57kg, Jennifer Lehane for Women’s 54kg, Jack Marley for Men’s 92kg and Michaela Walsh for Women’s 57 kg.
