The San Diego Padres have placed outfielder Fernando Tatís Jr. on the 10-day injured list due to a right femoral stress reaction diagnosed by the team’s medical staff. The 25-year-old has been dealing with tightness in his right quadriceps for the past few weeks and has not played since Friday. In addition to this injury, Tatís Jr. also has a left triceps bruise from being hit by a pitch by a Milwaukee Brewers pitcher.

The Padres manager Mike Shildt had initially considered using Tatís Jr. as a pinch hitter, but further evaluation revealed that rest was necessary for a full recovery. The timetable for Tatís’ return is uncertain, with a possible return in early July or after the MLB All-Star break.

Tatís has played in 80 games this season, hitting .279 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI. The Padres currently sit second in the NL West and hold the final NL wild-card spot with a record of 41-41. The team will have to navigate this injury as they continue their push for the postseason.
