After being fined £3,500 and given a suspended one-year transfer fee ban by the EFL for accumulating more than 30 days of late payments in the period from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024, Oxford United has successfully appealed the decision. Initially, the club faced a three-transfer window fee restriction, limiting them to signing only free agents during that time.

According to Oxford United Club Secretary Vanessa Gomm, the club was reported for late payments to another club due to an isolated administrative error. The payment was made promptly, but the EFL rules still required a financial penalty of £3,500 and a three-transfer window fee restriction. The club appealed this decision, arguing that the punishment was excessive for the error made.

After a review, an independent Disciplinary Commission agreed with the club and reduced the transfer window restriction to one, suspended for two years. This restriction will only come into effect if there is another breach of Regulation 52.6.3. This outcome means that Oxford United can continue to operate normally in the transfer window.

The team managed by Des Buckingham will compete in the Championship next season, marking their return to the second tier of English football after 25 years. The successful appeal has allowed the club to focus on their upcoming season without the transfer restrictions that were initially imposed.
