On Sunday at 1:30 p.m., Nicole Virgil will be presenting a talk titled “Be Set Free” in Smith Wilkes Hall, located at 21 Foster Ave., Chautauqua. The talk, which is open to the community and sponsored by the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Jamestown, and the Christian Science Informal Group at Chautauqua, will focus on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible, specifically in the life and teachings of Christ Jesus.

Virgil will discuss how circumstances can create obstacles that may seem difficult to overcome in order to live freely. By examining liberty from a Biblical standpoint, she will share how individuals today find freedom from physical, emotional, and circumstantial limitations that may appear beyond their control. Drawing from examples of healing in her own life and professional practice of Christian Science, Virgil will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific, allowing individuals to personally prove its effectiveness as outlined in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Christian Science movement.

During her talk, Virgil will also discuss the life of Mary Baker Eddy who understood and taught what she believed to be original Christian healing. Inspired by Jesus’ statement in John 14:12 where he said “He that believes on me, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do because I go unto my Father”, Eddy was able to confirm this principle through her own experiences of healing. Today’s practitioners like Virgil continue this tradition by using science-based prayer techniques to help individuals overcome challenges and find true freedom.
