To address this issue, companies are getting creative in their recruitment efforts.

Lauber IWISA offers a range of incentives to attract talent, including covering the cost of driver’s license and cell phone subscriptions for apprentices. They also provide perks like ski passes or festival passes and have implemented a 4.5-day work week with a focus on positive company culture. HR manager Flavia Heinzmann believes that providing a supportive environment and opportunities for growth are key to keeping apprentices engaged and motivated.

To attract good apprentices, companies participate in various events at schools, career fairs, and campaigns in the region and neighboring areas like Italy. Building a positive reputation as an employer and trainer is essential to attracting and retaining talent. The shortage of apprentices varies across industries, with sectors like hospitality, hotel, and construction facing difficulties in filling positions due to physical demands of the work, limited opportunities for advancement, and lower wages.

Proponents of vocational training highlight the opportunities for further education and career advancement after completing an apprenticeship.
