The Dome Classic Track Invitational at East Jackson High School on Friday, May 10, 2024, featured the women’s 1600 meter race. During this event, Columbia Central’s Melyssa McJennett stood out as the top spring sports junior in the Jackson area. McJennett showcased her skills in sprints, hurdles, and long jump, earning multiple first-place finishes in various events.

Her outstanding performance qualified her to compete in the Division 3 state meet in the 100 hurdles, with a qualifying time of 17.03 at the regional meet in Hillsdale. McJennett received recognition for her achievements and was voted as the top spring sports junior with 53.51% of the vote.

In addition to McJennett, Leslie soccer player Lily Smieska and Addison sprinter and hurdler Molly Brown were also recognized for their impressive performances. Smieska finished second in the voting, while Brown took third place among the top spring sports juniors in the Jackson area.
