Osceola County is leading the way in school safety with a new technology developed by Smart Radar System, Inc. (SRS). The Osceola School District partnered with SRS to implement a system that scans for pedestrians near the bus when it stops. Randy Wheeler, the director of transportation, expressed his optimism about the potential of this technology to enhance student safety.
The system includes radar sensors installed on the exterior of the bus, creating a 360-degree detection zone. These sensors detect movement within the zone and alert the driver through warning lights and sound alarms. Radar sensors located underneath the bus can detect foreign objects unseen by the driver, while sensors mounted inside the bus can detect passengers onboard, reducing the possibility of a child being left behind.
Paul Kim, CEO of SRS, highlighted the collaboration between their engineering and transportation teams to develop this radar solution. The partnership between SRS and the school district aligns with Osceola County’s efforts to establish their regional headquarters in NeoCity. This initiative not only creates technology jobs but also enhances safety in schools and the community.
