Organization owners frustrated by building delays on East Side

The completion date on the 2017 voter-authorized North New Braunfels street bond project on San Antonio’s East Side has been delayed by two months, causing aggravation in the small business neighborhood along the corridor. 

North New Braunfels, from Burleson Street down to East Houston Street, has been a building zone given that November 2021 and was slated for completion this month, but city officials say tight functioning situations, utility troubles and climate have delayed the project.

Building began on the left side of the corridor toward I-35, but switched to the correct side this year, causing difficulties for little small business owners who say that for months, small business has been negatively impacted.

“This is causing a lot of difficulties for people today down [here] that have corporations,” stated Robert Aguilar, manager at Safety Loan Business, a lender and pawn shop on the 1000 block of North New Braunfels Street. “If they know they’re going to be delayed, they need to have to do a thing.
