A recent study led by a team of researchers at the University of Florida has found that orange peels may hold the key to improving cardiovascular health. With the help of a $500,000 USDA grant, Yu Wang and her team investigated the use of orange peel extracts, which are rich in beneficial phytochemicals, to reduce the production of TMAO, a compound that can indicate future cardiovascular disease.

Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved Elanco’s Bovaer, a technology aimed at reducing enteric emissions in cows. This approval is seen as a significant step towards a more sustainable future within the dairy industry. Initiatives like Bovaer will allow U.S. farmers to participate in voluntary, producer-led sustainability programs and be rewarded for their efforts. NMPF President Gregg Doud believes that innovations like Bovaer will help American dairy farmers remain competitive on a global scale and continue to lead the way in sustainable dairy production.
