The Diabetes Prevention and Awareness Center will host a Health Fair in Monticello on Friday, June 7. The fair will take place at the Lawrence County Civic Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will feature local healthcare providers, nutrition experts, exercise coaches, food, and goodie bags.

One out of every three adults in the United States is pre-diabetic, with 81% of those individuals unaware of their condition. Prediabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are elevated but not yet at the level of a diabetes diagnosis. Early detection of prediabetes can allow individuals to make positive lifestyle and diet changes to prevent or delay the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

The free screenings at the Health Fair will check blood glucose levels and inform attendees of their risks. Early intervention and awareness can be crucial in preventing diabetes and improving quality of life.
