One person in England has died as a result of the ongoing E coli outbreak, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). This was announced on June 25th, when it was reported that two individuals in England had died within 28 days of being infected with shiga toxin-producing E coli (Stec). The UKHSA stated that based on information from health service clinicians, one of the deaths is likely linked to the Stec infection. Both individuals had underlying medical conditions and the deaths occurred in May.

As of June 25th, there have been 19 new cases of Stec reported, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 275 in the UK. In response to the outbreak, several food manufacturers have recalled sandwiches, wraps, and salads sold in major supermarkets and retail chains. The Food Standards Agency has determined that lettuce used in the products is believed to be the likely source of the outbreak.

The UKHSA is actively investigating the outbreak and working with partners to prevent further cases and ensure the safety of the public. The agency continues to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available. It is important for the public to follow any guidance from health officials and take necessary precautions to prevent infection.
