The Ohio State football coaching staff, led by head coach Ryan Day, is undergoing changes during the offseason. ESPN’s Pete Thamel recently reported that Ohio State is considering hiring former OSU graduate assistant Billy Fessler as an analyst to work with the quarterbacks. This move is likely influenced by the hiring of Chip Kelly as the new offensive coordinator.

Fessler has previously worked as a quarterbacks coach at UCLA under Kelly before being hired by Ohio State. Prior to that, he coached quarterbacks at Akron from 2022 to 2023 and was eventually promoted to offensive coordinator. Fessler also had previous experience as a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 2020 and 2021.

Chip Kelly’s influence is clear as he also hired Fessler at UCLA this offseason, and although Fessler’s role changed after Kelly’s departure, he maintains a strong connection to the former Penn State quarterback.
