The Boston Celtics are expected to make changes to their current roster during the summer, as several members of the bench rotation are impending free agents. Brad Stevens may decide to let some of the championship rotation’s bench pieces explore their options in free agency in order to save on luxury tax expenses. This means that Boston may need to bring in new rotation players, with the team only able to offer veteran minimum deals to potential additions.

Despite the financial limitations, the Celtics’ status as one of the best teams in the NBA could be a strong bargaining tool during contract negotiations. Players who are looking to compete for a championship and make a run at glory in the later stages of their careers may find Boston an attractive destination. Some potential free agency targets identified by Greg Swartz for Bleacher Report include Nicolas Batum, Gordon Hayward, Jae Crowder, and Robert Covington, all of whom have previous ties to the team.

While playing time in head coach Joe Mazzulla’s rotation may be limited, depth has been one of Boston’s strengths this season.
