The Athletics made a trade involving infielder J.D. Davis, sending him to the New York Yankees along with cash considerations in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans. This move was announced by the A’s on Sunday afternoon, following a report by Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

Oakland had designated Davis for assignment on June 17, having struggled at the plate with a .236 batting average and .304 on-base percentage in 135 at-bats this season. In return, the A’s acquired Groshans, a former first-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018.

Groshans has primarily played in the minor leagues, with a brief stint in the majors with the Miami Marlins in 2022. In that time, he posted a .262 batting average with one home run and two RBI in 61 at-bats. The 24-year-old is known for his versatility, capable of playing multiple positions including first base, third base, shortstop, and the outfield.

The addition of Groshans to the A’s roster provides depth and flexibility in various positions, improving the team’s overall roster composition. With Davis no longer on board, Oakland can now focus on developing its young players and building for the future.
