J.D. Davis has been designated for assignment by the Oakland Athletics, according to a report from NBC Sports Bay Area. This means that his time with the team has come to an end. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that Davis was let go by the San Francisco Giants during spring training before signing a one-year contract with Oakland for $2.5 million.

Davis was released by the Giants after two seasons with the team, as Matt Chapman’s arrival made him the odd man out. Despite hitting 18 home runs and driving in 69 RBI for the Giants last season, Davis struggled with the A’s this year, posting a .236/.304/.366 slash line. With Abraham Toro and Tyler Soderstrom finding success on the corners for Oakland, it seems that Davis’ performance was not enough to keep him on the roster.

During his time in Oakland, Davis spent time on the injured list with a strained right groin from April 15 to May 3, during which he hit just four home runs and seven RBI. If he is not traded by Oakland, he will become a free agent.
