The Athletics recently traded infielder J.D. Davis to the New York Yankees in exchange for infielder Jordan Groshans, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi. Oakland designated Davis for assignment on June 17, and he had a batting average of .236 with four home runs and five RBI in 135 at-bats this season before being DFA’d.

Groshans, a former first-round pick by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018, has primarily played in the minor leagues. However, he had a brief major-league appearance with the Miami Marlins in 2022 where he hit .262 with one home run and two RBI in 61 at-bats.

At 24 years old, Groshans is a utilityman who can play multiple positions such as first base, third base, shortstop, and outfield. This trade should provide the A’s with added depth at those positions on their roster. Groshans has shown promise in his minor league career and could be a valuable addition to the team’s lineup if given the opportunity to play regularly.
