The American stock markets had been closed on Wednesday, and on Tuesday the S&P 500 and Nasdaq had reached new record levels.

Meanwhile, Nvidia experienced a decline in stock value at the close of trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Earlier in the week, the company had surpassed Microsoft and Apple to become the most valuable company in the world, but that position has now been reclaimed by Microsoft. Nvidia’s stock fell by 3.5 percent on Thursday, halting a recent surge in its price.

At the end of the trading day, Nvidia was valued at just over $3.2 trillion, while Microsoft’s value exceeded $3.3 trillion. Apple rounded out the top three. Investors also reacted to new data regarding the American labor market, with weekly unemployment benefit applications reaching 238,000, slightly higher than expected
