Nvidia, a Silicon Valley chipmaker, has reached an agreement with Ooredoo, a telecom group from Qatar. Under the terms of the arrangement, Nvidia will share its artificial intelligence technology with Ooredoo. While the specifics of the deal were not disclosed, it is known that Ooredoo will be allowed to use Nvidia’s equipment at data centers in various countries including Qatar, Algeria, Tunisia, Oman, Kuwait and Maldives.

This deal marks Nvidia’s first major launch in a region where the export of advanced U.S. chips has been restricted by Washington to prevent Chinese firms from gaining access to the latest AI technology through Middle Eastern countries. According to Reuters, this move by Nvidia was aimed at providing generative AI applications to its customers through Ooredoo.

Ronnie Vasishta, Nvidia’s Senior Vice President of telecom, stated that this partnership will enable Ooredoo to assist its customers in implementing AI-powered solutions. However, the companies did not specify the exact technology that Nvidia will be sharing with Ooredoo or the financial value of the deal. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of TM Forum in Copenhagen on June 19th.
