Nutrien Ag Solutions Inc. has recently acquired the AgroScience assets of Suncor Energy, based in Calgary, Alberta. These assets include patented and patent-pending technologies in the field of biocontrol. This acquisition is in line with Nutrien’s strategy to invest in biocontrol technologies through its Loveland Products business. The technology acquired aims to offer advantages in resistance management for the global agriculture industry.

The biocontrol market continues to grow, and there is an increasing demand for bio-based solutions that work within existing management practices to improve sustainability and achieve bottom-line benefits in yield and efficiency. Casey McDaniel, the vice president of Loveland Products, expressed excitement about developing this new technology further. He believes that it will help accelerate Loveland Products’ efforts to provide a broader range of solutions that can help maximize yields.

Nutrien plans to launch new chlorine-based photosensitizer formulations in some global markets by 2025, with anticipated product submissions to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by 2026. These products will be marketed as part of the Loveland Products portfolio. McDaniel stated that biologicals are crucial tools for enhancing the potential of every field.

In the coming months and years, Nutrien aims to introduce more offerings like these under the Loveland brand or partner brands to cater to farmers of all sizes and in all regions.

Loveland Products is the proprietary products company for Nutrien Ag Solutions, which is the retail division of Nutrien Ltd., a leading provider of crop inputs and services. Their focus on biocontrol technologies highlights their commitment to innovation and sustainability in agriculture.
