In August, over 80 Novant Health employees in Winston-Salem will be permanently laid off. Alan Flynn, the Novant Health People & Culture Vice President, recently announced that 81 positions at a Novant Health facility in Winston-Salem will be permanently laid off on August 25.

The list of affected positions was attached to a WARN notice, and all positions appear to be in information technology. Some of the impacted positions include analytics developers, data engineers, and database administrators. Employees will be given a 60-day notice of their separation dates according to the notice.

In 2023, Novant Health announced a new IT model for their Digital Products and Services (DPS) team. This involves transferring some DPS services to an external partner. The company is shifting additional DPS functions to Deloitte Digital, reducing the use of other external partners by more than 90 percent. These changes are meant to allow Novant Health to scale resources and continue investing in creating a healthier future for the people and communities they serve.

Adjustments in roles and responsibilities will be seen by DPS team members due to this change while other roles are being phased out. Less than 300 team members, or less than 0.8% of the nearly 40,000 positions in the health system, are affected by this change. Those interested may have the opportunity to join external partners or transition to roles within Novant Health. The organization is providing resources to help ease the transition for team members impacted by this change and is appreciative of their service to Novant Health and its patients.

Novant Health’s decision to shift its IT services has resulted in layoffs for some employees in Winston-Salem. However, it’s important to note that this change is part of a larger effort by the company to invest in creating a healthier future for its customers and communities it serves.

The move comes after an announcement made earlier this year about a new IT model for their Digital Products and Services (DPS) team
