Novant Health is set to lay off over 170 employees across the Carolinas, with 90 of them in Lancaster County and another 81 in Winston-Salem facing permanent layoffs effective Aug. 25, 2024. The decision comes as a result of a new IT model announced in 2023, which saw some Digital Products and Services (DPS) functions being moved to an external partner.

Novant Health explained that they are shifting additional DPS functions to Deloitte Digital, reducing their use of other external partners by more than 90 percent. This restructuring is aimed at scaling resources to continue investing in creating a healthier future for the people and communities they serve. Some DPS employees will experience adjustments in their roles and responsibilities, while other positions will be phased out.

Affected employees may have the opportunity to join external partners or transition to new roles within Novant Health. The medical provider employs nearly 40,000 individuals across its 19 inpatient centers and over 850 outpatient facilities. This latest wave of layoffs is part of the organization’s efforts to streamline operations and optimize resources in line with their new IT model.

Novant Health’s mission is to provide high-quality healthcare services and support to the community, and these changes are intended to help the company fulfill that mission more effectively. As the organization continues to evolve and adapt to changing needs, they are committed to providing a healthy future for all those they serve.
