Novak Djokovic, the reigning men’s champion at the French Open, has announced that he underwent surgery on a knee injury and will strive to return to the court as soon as possible. The 24-time Grand Slam champion sustained the medial meniscus injury in his right knee during a fourth-round victory, forcing him to withdraw from the quarter-final against Casper Ruud. Djokovic is expected to take at least three weeks to recover from the injury, which may prevent him from competing in Wimbledon and affect his preparations for the Olympic Games later this year.

Djokovic expressed his love for tennis and his unwavering determination to return to competition. As a seven-time Wimbledon champion, Djokovic has an impressive track record in Grand Slam tournaments but has yet to win an Olympic gold medal, something he has made a priority this year. Djokovic acknowledged the support of his medical team and fans during his recovery process and expressed gratitude for their assistance.

With his injury, Djokovic will lose his position as world number one, with Italy’s Jannik Sinner set to take over. Sinner, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, will face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open semi-finals on Friday, further shaping the competitive landscape in men’s tennis. Despite facing stiff competition from Sinner and Alcaraz, Djokovic remains determined to return to play as soon as possible and continue his successful career in tennis.
