On Monday, the Chargers announced that they had signed offensive tackle Joe Alt to a four-year deal worth $33.2 million, including a $20.9 million signing bonus. After finishing his career at Notre Dame as one of the nation’s top offensive linemen, Alt was selected as the fifth overall pick by the Chargers. In addition to his All-America honors as a junior, Alt was also a first-team All-American as a sophomore in 2022. He started 33 out of 38 career games played for the Fighting Irish and became the highest-drafted Notre Dame offensive lineman in over 50 years. Alt is the first Fighting Irish lineman selected in the first round since 2018 when Quenton Nelson and Michael McGlinchey were chosen sixth and ninth overall, respectively. His father, John Alt, was a first-round draft selection by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1984 and was a two-time Pro Bowl selection during his career.
