Northville businessman Ali Kassem Kain has been accused of committing millions of dollars worth of tax fraud. Between 2017 and 2020, Kain allegedly filed false tax documents for his business, which specialized in arranging the shipment of automobiles overseas. Additionally, he failed to pay employment taxes for his company’s employees.

According to court documents, Kain underreported his business’ gross receipts by several million dollars on corporate returns. He also misrepresented the amount of income he earned on his personal tax returns. Furthermore, authorities claim that Kain withheld Social Security, Medicare, and federal income taxes from his employees’ wages but failed to remit these taxes to the IRS.

As a result of these actions, Kain is said to have caused a tax loss of nearly $5 million to the IRS. He has been charged with 15 counts of failing to collect and pay over employment taxes, as well as eight counts of filing false tax returns. If convicted, Kain could face up to 99 years in jail.
