The Indianapolis Colts have selected Eden Obomeghie as their candidate for the 2024 NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative. Obomeghie expressed her excitement for the opportunity, hoping it will enhance her skills and knowledge in sports medicine. Currently pursuing her Doctor of Medicine at Morehouse School of Medicine, Obomeghie earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Houston in 2018. She also received an associate’s degree from Houston Community College in 2015 while working as a research assistant at Houston from 2016-2018.

The NFL Diversity in Sports Medicine Pipeline Initiative was launched in 2022 to increase and diversify the pipeline of students interested in sports medicine careers and to diversify NFL club medical staff over time. Students from 21 medical schools have been paired with NFL clubs for one-month clinical rotations focused on primary care sports medicine and orthopedic surgery. These rotations provide students with hands-on experience working alongside club medical staff, providing care to players across the league. The clinical rotations are set to begin as the 2024 NFL season training camps open next month.

During their rotations, students will observe and participate in the care of NFL players under the supervision of team physicians, athletic trainers, dietitians, and other medical staff. They will gain exposure to patient care in sports medicine, learn return-to-play protocols, and understand on-field treatment considerations for NFL players. The initiative is part of the NFL’s commitment to ensuring diversity in staff and leadership positions across the league.

Obomeghie shared that she is thrilled about this opportunity as it aligns with her passion for sports medicine and helping others achieve their full potential. She believes that this program will provide her with valuable insights into various aspects of sports medicine that she would not otherwise get exposed to.

The Indianapolis Colts are confident that Obomeghie will make a valuable contribution to their organization as they prepare for the upcoming season. As a diverse candidate who has demonstrated exceptional skills and knowledge in sports medicine, Obomeghie has already shown great potential as a future leader within
