Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb skipped the team’s mandatory minicamp as he seeks a new contract. He is entering the final year of his rookie contract and following in the footsteps of Minnesota’s Justin Jefferson, who recently agreed to a record-breaking deal worth $110 million guaranteed. The absence of Lamb during the three-day minicamp on Tuesday came after news broke that Jefferson had signed a four-year contract that pays $88 million upfront and could be worth as much as $140 million.

Lamb and Jefferson were both first-round picks in 2020 and are entering their final year under rookie contracts. While Lamb had career highs with an NFL-leading 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns in his first year under coach Mike McCarthy, his absence at minicamp has raised concerns about his readiness for the upcoming season. However, McCarthy stated that Lamb is in a business situation and he has no concerns about the readiness of the team’s veterans.

Meanwhile, star pass rusher Micah Parsons attended minicamp after skipping most of the voluntary offseason work. The absence of Parsons during the voluntary portion of the offseason was a bigger deal for Dallas because new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has replaced Dan Quinn, who was hired as coach in Washington. Despite this change, Parsons is expected to play a crucial role in Dallas’ defense this season.
