In Mexico, the world’s largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, experienced a small fire while in port. The crew quickly put out the blaze, with no injuries reported. The incident caused minimal damage to the ship and passengers were kept updated on the situation. Some reported seeing a plume of black smoke and feeling vibrations during a brief power outage that lasted approximately 20-60 minutes. Despite this minor setback, the Icon of the Seas was able to continue its itinerary and depart for Cozumel.
While fires are not uncommon for maritime operators, including cruise ships, this incident is noteworthy because it occurred on a new vessel that just entered service in January. The Icon of the Seas is capable of accommodating up to 7,600 passengers on its 1,200-foot-long deck. However, this is not the first time that power issues have affected this ship – a previous power loss event occurred at sea on May 19 when the ship experienced temporary loss of propulsion. Nevertheless, despite these incidents and challenges, the Icon of the Seas continues to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for its passengers.
