The Chicago Cubs have brought up infielder Luis Vázquez from the minor leagues to provide much-needed defensive cover for the team. Vázquez, 24, has impressed with his offensive and defensive skills in Triple-A last season and was added to the Cubs’ 40-man roster over the winter. This move comes as Nico Hoerner has been sidelined with left hamstring tightness, with a possible return to the lineup on Tuesday according to manager Craig Counsell.

Vázquez’s versatility has been a valuable asset this season, as he has played shortstop, third base, and second base in Triple-A. He is known for his defensive prowess and his impressive offensive improvements have caught the attention of the team. With Vázquez’s skills in the infield, Counsell now has a much-needed defensive option to help improve the team’s performance on defense.

The Cubs have struggled defensively this season, ranking 25th in Outs Above Average and 21st in defensive runs saved. The addition of Vázquez to the major league roster reflects their commitment to utilizing their minor league depth to address current needs.
