Newcastle United fans are feeling a mix of emotions after the transfer of homegrown talent Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest. The 21-year-old, who came up through Newcastle’s academy and made 55 first-team appearances under manager Eddie Howe, has left the club.

The transfer was a result of the club needing to sell players to comply with profit and sustainability regulations. While several players were close to leaving the club, Anderson being sacrificed by Newcastle, despite his Geordie roots and academy background, has left many fans disappointed.

Supporters were hoping to see more academy players make an impact at Newcastle, as it is a rare occurrence at the club. Anderson had shown promise on the field, but also faced injuries and tough competition in midfield. Towards the end of the season, he had a chance to shine and looked impressive with his competitiveness, energy, versatility, and technical abilities.

Newcastle and its fans believed that Anderson had a bright future ahead of him, which made it difficult for the club to let him go. However, with a deadline looming on 30 June, they had no choice but to move him on. Despite the mixed feelings about the transfer, Newcastle supporters will now have to wait and see how Anderson’s career progresses at Nottingham Forest.

Matthew Raisbeck shared these insights during BBC Radio Nottingham’s Shut Up And Show More Football podcast where he explained that this decision was not an easy one for both fans and management alike.

The departure of Elliot Anderson is likely to leave a void in midfield for Newcastle United as they look towards next season without him.
