In his final group-stage match, Ferguson delivered impressive figures of 4-4-0-3 against Papua New Guinea. His exceptional performance included dismissing PNG captain Assad Vala with the very first ball he bowled, while also stifling the opposition batsmen with dot balls throughout his spell. He finished with three wickets, making it clear that he was a force to be reckoned with in T20 cricket.

Ferguson credited his success to challenging wicket conditions and swing as factors that worked in his favor during the match. The game against PNG started after a rain delay, with New Zealand successfully restricting the opposition to 78 runs in 19.4 overs.
