The New York Jets have acquired defensive end/outside linebacker Takkarist McKinley for their roster after a successful tryout. McKinley, who was once a top-round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2017, brings experience and versatility to the Jets’ already strong defensive front. Despite experiencing some injuries during his time in Atlanta, McKinley has shown potential with 13.0 sacks in his first two seasons.

After brief stints with the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams, McKinley joined the Dallas Cowboys practice squad in late 2022 but did not see any game action before being released in June 2023. With Haason Reddick potentially missing minicamp and part of training camp due to contract negotiations, McKinley has an opportunity to make an impact while playing alongside other talented players like Jermaine Johnson and Will McDonald.

While McKinley may not be vying for a starting spot, his 20.0 career sacks and 25 tackles for loss in 64 games demonstrate his ability to contribute to the Jets’ defense. His experience and skill set will be valuable assets as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
