Ryan Blaney led the pack in Friday’s practice session at Sonoma Raceway, where Cup teams were given 50 minutes on the newly repaved road course. The faster speeds on the new surface were evident, with Blaney clocking in at 97.866 mph, more than 6 mph faster than the previous year’s best lap.
In the Xfinity Series, Shane van Gisbergen topped the practice charts with a speed of 95.152 mph. Parker Kligerman came in second at 94.763 mph. However, the session was interrupted by a crash involving Boris Said in the No. 17 car for Hendrick Motorsports.
Cup qualifying will begin at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, with the race scheduled for Sunday afternoon. A NASCAR Cup rookie is aiming to showcase his skills in hope of securing a ride for the 2025 season.
