On Wednesday, the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi issued a circular outlining new regulations and requirements for contracting with social media influencers and sites. All economic establishments, influencers, and social media platforms were called upon to obtain a license from the Department in order to engage in advertising and advertising services on electronic websites and social media platforms.

Economic establishments were also required to obtain a permit from the Department for any advertising activities. Failure to comply with these regulations could result in penalties and violations, including closure of the facility. The value of the violations was specified as 3 thousand dirhams for the first offense, 6 thousand dirhams for the second offense, 8 thousand dirhams for the third offense, and 10 thousand dirhams for the fourth offense.

These measures are aimed at regulating advertising practices on social media and ensuring that all parties involved adhere to the necessary rules and regulations set forth by the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi. Influencers were reminded to ensure that they have a valid license from the Department before engaging in any advertising activities. Economic establishments were also reminded of their responsibility to ensure that influencers they contract with have a valid license from the Department. Failure to comply could have serious consequences for both influencers and economic establishments.
