Governor Andy Beshear has recently signed a bill into law that allows businesses in Kentucky to obtain medical cannabis licenses. The program’s 11 regions for licensing dispensaries have been released by state officials. Applications for business licenses will be open from July 1 to August 31, and the types of available licenses include cultivator, processor, safety compliance facility, and dispensary.

Initially, the allocation of medical cannabis business licenses will be done through a lottery system. However, there will not be a lottery system for the allocation of Safety Compliance Facility licenses as there is no initial limitation on the number of those licenses. For more information on how to apply for a business license in the Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program, visit the program’s website.
