The Defense Ministry has recently approved a series of measures aimed at improving the work conditions of local self-defense unit commanders. However, the Finance Ministry has blocked their employment as civilian workers within the IDF. In response, the Defense Ministry will increase payments to municipalities that will be used to raise the salaries of local self-defense unit commanders and create new positions for their deputies.

To further support these units, the minister has approved programs for training and retraining commanders and a project for acquiring equipment, ammunition, and weapons for self-defense units. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the capabilities and readiness of local self-defense units across the country.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant believes that by addressing issues related to employment conditions, salaries, and equipment for commanders, the Defense Ministry can enhance the vital work carried out by these units in safeguarding their communities. The approval of these measures underscores the government’s commitment to supporting local self-defense units and ensuring that they have the resources and support needed to fulfill their important role in protecting Israel’s security.
