The Lady Blue Devils basketball team from Statesboro is going through significant changes this year compared to the team that made it to the second round of state playoffs last season. With four starters departing, including two who received college scholarships, the team is concentrating on building camaraderie and nurturing younger players during the offseason. One player who has stood out as a potential leader is sophomore guard Maggie O’Neill. Coach Marty Holder has high expectations for O’Neill, citing her improvement in skills, basketball knowledge, and vocal presence on defense. He believes she is prepared to take on a more significant role in the upcoming season.

O’Neill herself recognizes the increased responsibility she now carries on the team due to the departure of crucial players. She has embraced her new role as a leader and has worked hard to improve her game while learning to be dependable and reliable for her teammates. Despite the challenges of having a young squad, O’Neill is confident in their gritty and resilient nature, believing that with hard work, they can have a successful season.

The focus of the Lady Blue Devils during the summer months is on gaining experience and strengthening their team chemistry to prepare for the challenges ahead. Although facing changes and losses from last year, the team remains optimistic about their potential and motivated to work hard towards achieving their goals.
