The Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE) is set to begin operations in September, with a focus on exploration, cooperation, technology use, and space science. The agency has received support from 22 out of 33 countries, with Belize becoming the latest member.

The ALCE aims to enhance cooperation and create specialized economies in the region by focusing on satellite development, ground stations, professional training, and information sharing. Its budget of $10 million annually will primarily be aimed at projects related to climate change and environmental preservation. However, the agency is not intended to compete with larger space agencies like NASA but to complement and support the space economy.

Mexico is urged to create a national space system to generate proposals and establish standards for the space industry. The future Mexican government will play a crucial role in determining the country’s involvement in the space industry. The ALCE is working towards establishing partnerships with countries like the United States for mutual benefits.

The ALCE’s vision is to foster a sense of cooperation and support among Latin American countries in the space sector. It aims to leverage human talent and resources to contribute to global space initiatives. The agency has received support and offers of cooperation from countries like China and is committed to advancing space technology and innovation in the region.

With its focus on collaboration, technology development, and specialized economies in Latin America, the ALCE has great potential for growth in the coming years. As more countries sign up for membership, it will become an even more powerful force in driving innovation and progress in this rapidly expanding field of research.
