The Society for Science has announced the appointment of five distinguished individuals to its Honorary Board. These new members, selected by the Board of Trustees, will offer guidance and expertise on important scientific issues related to the Society’s mission.

The Honorary Board is composed of prominent figures from various fields such as science, engineering, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The new members include Charles H. Bennett, a Fellow at IBM Thomas J Watson Research Center and Science Talent Search 1960 participant; Martin Chalfie, University Professor at Columbia University and Nobel Prize in Chemistry recipient in 2008; Sylvester James Gates Jr., a renowned physicist and professor at the University of Maryland; Shirley Ann Jackson, who serves as President Emerita at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and Joe Palca, a freelance science journalist and former NPR Science Correspondent.

Mary Sue Coleman, Chair of the Society for Science Board of Trustees also welcomed the new members and looks forward to collaborating with them to achieve greater excellence and impact.

As Honorary Board members, these individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership that will significantly contribute to the Society’s efforts to enhance scientific literacy and expand access to STEM programs. They will play a crucial role in helping the Society address strategic organizational matters and engage with students participating in its science competitions.
